Arsenal legend Martin Keown was providing punditry in Budapest as he watched Mikel Arteta’s side suffer defeat to PSG in the Champions League final.

Fans of the Premier League champions had to watch their side suffer defeat in the cruellest of fashions in the Hungarian capital against PSG as Gabriel missed his penalty to give the Ligue 1 champions the trophy.

The Gunners took the lead early on through Kai Havertz, but they would concede a penalty in the second that was cooly dispatched by Ousmane Dembele to equalise on the night.

It would remain 1-1 through regulation time and then extra time, with Arsenal struggling to create any real chances of note, apart from their goal, as they registered only one shot on target.

Despite this defeat, fans of Arsenal will line the streets of North London on Sunday to see their side parade their Premier League trophy.

While they will come out to show their support to their club for securing their first Premier League for 22 years, they will feel this was a golden opportunity to secure their first Champions League, and they will hope they can go again next year in the competition.

However, Keown believes there is one area that needs improving if they are to build on this campaign.

The former Arsenal star believes it is important for the side to bring another striker in as he believes, despite Havertz’s goal, that this position is where they truly lack depth or star power.

That is after they added Viktor Gyokeres to the team for £65 million; however, the Swede has endured a campaign of mixed returns.

Keown said on TNT Sports: “They may look again at the striker.

“Kai Havertz played 90 minutes tonight, but it’s only the second full game he’s finished in 18 months.

“With Viktor Gyokeres, it was a difficult night for him, so that could be an area Arsenal look at. Maybe left-wing as well. Mikel Arteta will strengthen, there’s no doubt about that.”

Arteta is likely to be given the resources to build on the success of this campaign, and following their impressive season shutting sides out, there may be a belief within the club they need to bring in a world-class striker that can have a similar impact up top to that of William Saliba and Gabriel at the back.
